I am back! It is your homegirl, Shameless, all up in your bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room... don't be in class.
Watch later.
School first kids! Okay! So...
Tips! For those of you that are just tuning in, I have a myriad of different videos.
This is my first 5 tips every artist should know.
Fear.
All these wonderful videos. You should watch them all; they're all awesome... educational, inspirational, motivational.
If you can't click on these videos 'cause you're on your phone, then make sure you guys read the description box!
From now on, I'm gonna do secret giveaways that only exist in the... description box! So make sure you guys read.
Nobody likes a biter, a copycat, a ripoff, a hijack. We don't like that.
It's always... as a young artist, when you're still trying to figure out your style and whatever, I guess it is easy to want to copy...
someone who inspires you and you like their work and you're like, ''oh my goodness, I like that, I'm gonna do that.''
It's so important to just be inspired by it and create your own unique work; because the world doesn't need copycats. The world needs you.
The world needs you to express yourself and be unique.
So I understand that that could be part of the journey, but if you're going to do that, at least pay homage to the artist who's work you're copying.
But if anything, I would just take what they're doing, and distill it and make it your own.
You gotta know who you are.
Places. Be curious! Always ask questions!
I can't stress how important this is. As an artist, what you create is completely and entirely based off of personal experience and exposure.
If you live in a neighborhood and you don't ever leave, your scope on life will be very... meh.
In this bubble--and there's nothing wrong with that. But as a human being, to make the most of this life--'cause you only have this one life--get out there!
Travel! Travel, travel, travel; if you can afford to travel right now.
Expose yourself to different shows; I'm talking theatre, I'm talking dance, museums?
Museums, if--you've already done that though.
Go to art exhibits, go to galleries, go to festivals. Go to things outside of your comfort zone.
When you start stepping outside of your comfort zone, not only do you grow as a human being...
you have a better understanding and appreciation for this beautiful world that we live in.
Get out there! Grow! Don't get comfortable. When you're comfortable, that means you ain't growing.
One life! One life. You're gonna die. Make the most of it.
It is always great to create from yourself and be inspired and do you.
Working with other artists just creates more inspiration, it just creates more versatility and diversity in your work. So work with other people
You will be inspired. Provided that this person is awesome. Work with awesome people.
And that means positive, loving people.
Teamwork makes the dream work. Booyakasha! Okay.
A lot of people need to discipline themselves and work hard and hustle.
Because while you're sleeping, while you're out there, you know, getting wasted at a party...
while you're out there, you know, gossiping with your friends, all of that nonsense, somebody like me is up all hours hustling, trying to get it done.
Because I'm trying to do something with my life. And it's not just me--a lot of the people I surround myself with are hustlers.
So work hard.
Although, you also want to work smart. You gotta work hard, work smart. That's the hustler part.
The people who made it to the top--and I'm talking like, you know. You know a hustler when you see a hustler!
They worked to get that position, they worked to get to that top.
That requires hard work, discipline, hustling, thinking outside the box, going after what it is you want and not taking 'no' for an answer.
And if somebody tells me no, I'm like ''okay boo.'' Then I find a different route, and I go and I do it.
It's essential. Hard work and hustling.
I don't sleep much. I don't sit still much. And I don't waste time on superfluous things that distract me from getting to where I want to go.
So... that's my tip!
I can't tell you how valuable this tool is.
Especially when it comes to reaching your maximum potential, reaching a newfound level of success.
I spent years trying to perfect photography, trying to perfect acting.
If I don't learn how to promote what I have to offer, nobody is going to know I exist.
Because I am now pretty good at self promotion, I still have a ways to go.
I have been presented with amazing opportunities; some of them you are familiar with.
I signed to an awesome network: Maker, AKA the Platform. I have a few brand deals under my belt, which was the first thing with MetroPCS, Toms, and I have a few more coming up.
And I have awesome people like you watching this that have creative minds. That have approached me and have collaborated with me to create awesome ideas.
And honestly, I think this is one of the most valuable tips any artist, entrepreneur--you need to learn how to help yourself.
Don't rely on somebody else to do it for you. If you have that opportunity too, then that's awesome.
But more often than not we gotta learn how to, you know, promote ourselves.
I had to learn that what I have to offer is valuable and I believe in what I do.
And even if I didn't at the time, I faked it. I kept putting it out there despite my reservations.
And eventually I will get over my ish which is what happened.
Self promotion is key. It's key to success, it's key to growth if you are an artist and/or entrepreneur.
It's darn challenging as well. And I guess there is a line of obnoxious.
But it depends on your brand. I have a very particular brand. And yes, I am obnoxious and annoying to some of you, but I'm also intriguing and interesting to others.
And because of that I'm shameless.
Do you, do what you're comfortable with. And the rest is all gravy, boo.
So I'm gonna continue with this series. I got a lot of positive feedback from it and a lot of you guys find this inspiring and positive so I'll continue to do it.
Right now we have 10 tips... we'll end up with 100 or something.
And I wanna know... I wanna know...
What is your favorite color? I wasn't aware of this, but gray is my favorite color.
My couch is gray, my walls are gray, a lot of my clothing, accessories, scarves, sweaters, jogging suits, towels... it's all gray.
It's very common for me.
So what's your favorite color? I wanna know, comment below!
Do you, be you, stay true. Be shameless, yo. I love you!
