We're in City Center, in downtown Oakland. Behind me, you see the Tribune Tower. It's
a famous city landmark. It's been lighting up the skyline since the late 1920's, and
it was the home of the Oakland Tribune Newspaper, that was owned by Joseph P. Nolan. The Tribune
started in the 1870's, so it's over a hundred years old, and Mr. Nolan built this Tribune
Tower Building, in the late 1920's, and Harry Houdini, was said to have hung off the Tower,
and tried to escape out of his straight jacket, so that's one of the many colorful stories
associated with the Tower. In 1989 for the earthquake, the building was damaged and stood
empty for quite a while, but new owners bought it, restored it, renovated it, and now it's
open again, and a beautiful building in downtown Oakland, once again.
