Hi, I’m Britta Smith and this is Cheri. Hi, I’m Cheri and I’m the special programs
advisor for the transfer academy here at SBCC. What exactly is the TAG program? So there
are 2 different ways to explain the TAG program. There’s the Transfer Admissions Guarantee
which is basically a guarantee with all the Universities, or all of the UC’s should
I say with the exception of UC Berkeley and UCLA. That basically states that if you are
fulfilling a criteria then you are guaranteed admissions into that school. Now the Transfer
Academy is something completely different. We are a support system for the two programs
and often time’s students get confused about the two programs. You don’t necessarily
need to be in the transfer academy to be in the TAG program. However we are here to encourage
you to come in anytime and start as early as possible. How do I apply if I wanted to
apply for the TAG program? Again two different criteria’s, if you wanted to be a part of
the Transfer Academy you want to be sure you have at least a 2.8 GPA and that’s either
as an incoming freshman from high school or as a returning student at SBCC. If your looking
to apply for the TAG program you want to be sure you have at least 30 units at a California
Community College, and that you’ve completed your transferable math which could be anywhere
for 114 to 117 or higher depending on your major. Also, that you have your transferable
English which is 110 and 111 as well as 4 courses out of IGETC which we do give to you
in detail if you attend one of our orientations. Is there a deadline to apply? There is defiantly
a deadline. When would that be? September 1st through the 30th is the deadline to apply
for TAG. I want to make clear that those are two separate deadlines. Often we have students
who apply for TAG in September and in November when you’re supposed to apply for the UC
admissions application they don’t do it then they are denied. If I’m a TAG member
what schools could I apply to? So if you are a transfer academy member which is a little
bit different then the TAG, we have several schools we do offer TAG relationships with.
All of the Universities of California, with the exception of UC Berkeley and UCLA. However
if you are interested in UCLA, they do offer something called a priority consideration,
which is with the honors program. So that is something you’d have to talk to your
counselor about if you are interested in UCLA. We have a TAG relationship with CSU Bakersfield.
We also have a few private and out of state TAG universities that we offer a relationship
with right now. Portland State University and Sarah Cues University are in final pending
right now. Were very excited about that. We have a local private school here in Santa
Barbara. Antioch University in Santa Barbara. Also a school a little further up north which
is Bradman University. And so those are the relationships we have a guaranteed admission
approach with. Arizona State University is also has assured admissions which is something
you can talk to your counselor about and we also help our students with.
