This is a GeoGebra quickie to show how to zoom, pan and rescale on the fly. That is,
without changing the active tool. Let us make our active tool “Polygon” just so that
we have an active tool. Now let us say that we want to zoom in or zoom out in our drawing
pad. We simply put our mouse pointer at the point that we want to have fixed and we use
our mouse scroll button to zoom out by rolling it up or to zoom in by rolling it down. Zooming
is a non reversible operation. You cannot undo it.
On the other hand, panning which is where we shift the screen is an undo-able operation.
We could use the Move drawing pad tool to pan, but we want to do this without changing
our active tool. We press and hold shift and the important thing is not to click on the
axes. Click and drag the drawing pad anywhere you want. Here it is with (0,0) in the middle.
Press and hold shift on your PC and then click and drag it down – let us say – to the
left hand corner here. Now let us say that we want to rescale. We
want the x-axis to be from 0 to 10. That is okay. But we want this to be from 0 to 100.
We simple press and hold shift and then go up to the top of the y-axis because we want
to be pulling it down and then pull it down until we see 100 show up there on the top.
There we go. And there we have from 0 to 100 on the y-axis and 0 to 10 on the x-axis. We
can undo this operation. Undo. And now let us say that we want the y-axis from 0 to 1.
Now we press and hold shift. Click down here and pull it towards the top.
That is how to zoom, pan and rescale on the fly with GeoGebra.
