Hello people and a big fat Friday welcome to this week’s news round up, where we gather
together all the biggest scoops from Monday the 8th to Sunday the 14th October, including
fresh GTA V details, the sort-of death of Kevin Butler and yet more ‘Windows 8 is
going to be rubbish’ revelations.
Let’s kick off with a subject close to every gamer’s heart: Capcom DLC! Apparently Cappers
are in the process of reevaluating their DLC strategy, and apparently this means not mercilessly
ripping you off. There’s free stuff on the way for Resident Evil 6, including a super
hard No Hope difficulty mode, plus a co-op partner for Ada’s campaign. Funny - we would
have paid actual money for Barry Burton. Or a Chun Li outfit for Helena. And if you were
wondering how well Capcom’s new direction with resi has been received, here’s some
numbers; it sold 675 thousand copies in its first week in Japan.
There’s plenty of new stuff on the channel this week, and you can click this button at
any time to be taken to the CVG link-o-tron 5000. Hopefully you’ll have seen all the
Dishonored stuff, but we’ve also got new trailers for the warmly received Injustice,
and Star Citizen - the latest Battlestar Galactica ‘em up from the creator of Wing Commander.
There’s also a metric war-ton of new Black Ops 2 gameplay. Go have a look and see what
you think of the engine and tell us what you think. The Forza Horizon demo is also live
now, but if you’re can’t be bothered to have a look, we’ve also got all the footage
from Microsoft’s freshly-upholstered racer.
In mascot news, things have gone sour between Sony and Kevin Butler. Sony filed a lawsuit
against the actor after he appeared in a Bridgestone tyres advert featuring the Wii, and Bridgestone
has since hit back, saying that it isn’t Kevin Butler. Because, y’know, Kevin Butler
doesn’t actually exist. We just hope the legal wrangling hasn’t put a damper on the
sexy update to the PlayStation store - which, quite frankly, is looking a bit Xboxy - or
the news that 5 million PS3s have shifted in the UK. This is particularly good news
for us, because they send all the UK game hacks delicious cakes of victory.
Right, we promised you GTA V news and here it is. American mag GameInformer is set to
attend an event next month that includes a demo of Grand Theft Auto 5, in preparation
for their December cover feature. Expect a veritable downpour of news and updates after
the reveal, which will probably render our lovely rumour round up complete obsolete.
This comes in the same week that Gamestop UK listed a release date for the game of March
1. If you need something Rockstar to tide you over until then, a games collection has
been listed by online retailers, suggesting four excellent Rockstar classics will be bundled
together on November 13th. Or more accurately, three Rockstar classics and LA Noire.
Sticking with probably-doomed operating systems, there been more surprising news this week
surrounding Windows 8. It’s been revealed that the Windows 8 marketplace won’t be
selling 18-rated games, so anything over a PEGI 16 is out. Not a big deal unless you
want to play titles like Skyrim, The Witcher 2, Modern Warfare 3, Max Payne 3, Sleeping
Dogs, Dishonored or Mass Effect 3. If you’re looking for us, Bill, we'll be on Steam...
We’ll finish with two bits of ridiculous news: firstly, Microsoft are working on a
new wristband controller that looks less like a Mass Effect omni tool, and more like the
Nintendo powerglove. All we’ve got is this single image, which resembles someone cupping
invisible balls. Trust us, we’d know. Not stupid enough for you? How about this: the
presumably-bored people at PETA have continued their campaign against Pokemon, saying that
Pikachu and co. are treated as unfeeling objects. We don’t have time to go through all the
reasons why this is literally insane, but these two will do for now: one, no they aren’t,
and two, GO AND SAVE SOME REAL ANIMALS. You idiots.
That’s all we’ve got for you for now, but stick around for the CVG linkogeddon,
and please rate, comment and subscribe we'll send you bourbon biscuits.
