The Holavanahalli Farm. This is the name of the farm Mr. Ayappa Masagi and his fellows
Ashok and Chendre Kumar founded in February 2012. They bought 16 Acres barren land to
build an instructional farm with water saving techniques to train educated farmers. This
farm is nearby neglected villages so that the model farm should also show the success
of Rain Water Harvesting to its surrounding. When they started the project the whole land
was dry land. There was no drinking water available and you could only get less water
from an old borewell. Mr Ayappa MAsagi started the survey and began the Nala Renovation by
removing the silt and deepening it. After he began the Lake construction to harvest
rainwater. The soil of the llake was used for levelling the undulated land. From time
to time the lake was more and more refilled with water and the old borewell and four neighbour
borewells were indirect recharged. The reason is that the Subsoil Surface is recharged because
of the water in the lake. On the other hand Mr. ayappa Masagi is direct recharging three
other borewells. On those pictures you can see Masagi's new borewell. In case of an overflow
of the lake than more of fifteen feet the lake water flows into the Gallery Filter and
the 180 Feet pipeline into the Recharge Pit of the new borewell. In the new borewell water
is available now at 40 feet. This farm is quite a huge success. The neighbour farmers
are now very convinced by the success of this model farmand want also to install those techniques.
In addition many old and new borewells are recharged and the lake had even three times
overflowed. Because of this big success this project has a lot of future plans including
water conservation methods, organic farming, multicrop systems for every month crop, non-irrigational
agriculture, organic manure including bio disaster, compost manufactering and plastic
mulching. This project will help the Water Literacy to achieve their vision: That India
must be a water-efficient country by 2020.
