With UOIT,
you know those are the students that are going to be
protecting people against these threats in the future so really
letting them know uh... what's out there and what to expect is very
important I think.
First and foremost was targeted attacks.
Right? So that began with stocks net
or sorry, hydrack and then stocks net later on. Second, social networking
became a big issue.
On top of that zero day vulnerablilities rootkit techniques. Attack toolkits
were another big
issue that we saw this year
and uh... mobile threats.
Mobile devices
we're just starting to see it now
and i think for both the last five years we've had people saying you know
oh yea he next year is going to be the year
next year is going to be the year
Well now
I think the devices are, you know,
getting to a point
where they're so user-friendly that they are being used for a lot more. People who
you know
in
in sort of fiat the corporate space
right? They've got they've got their their social networking accounts as well
and they're posting a little too much information like maybe
uh...
you know, I was that
such-and-such conference last week
If i can get access to their social networking profile and i see that they
were at that conference last week
that gives me some information to construct a believable
social engineering attack.
Being a student in network and IT security, I found this presention to be quiet useful
and informative. The presentation topics that were covered were really informative on the future of network and IT security and what people like myself want to do, especially when we get into the workforce.
This report really helps to
give a view of what happened in the last year so that users know what sorts of
things they can they can expect to see in the coming year
