My son likes rail road crossings so for his third birthday, I decided to build one. I
made it from scratch with supplies from a crafts store and obviously some electronics.
There is a small speaker in the bell at the top, a pair of jumbo LEDs for lights, and a
servo motor to move the bar.
This all came together shortly before the birthday party so I ended up mounting the
original prototyping breadboards and I used an expensive chip to play the sounds.
Version 2 will instead use a second 8-bit microcontroller for sound at a tenth of the
cost and I'll design a printed circuit board to go along with it.
And here it is in action...
