Corn meal is easily available during the winter time.
In this season, we eat roti or paratha made from Corn meal.
But today we will make the salted mathri from Cornmeal.
It is very tasty.
We can enjoy eating it with tea, or as snacks when we are a little hungry.
You can easily make Cornmeal mathri.
So come, let’s prepare Cornmeal salted Mathri.
Cornmeal - 2 cup
Sesame seeds (til) - 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds (Jeera) - ½ tsp
Carom seeds (Ajwain) - ½ tsp
Salt (Namak) - ½ tsp or salt as per taste
Black pepper (Kali mirch) - 20 to 25 (grind)
Oil - To knead the dough and fry the mathri
To make Cornmeal salted mathri, first we’ll knead the dough.
Grind the black pepper.
The black pepper is now grounded.
Put the Cornmeal in a bowl.
Add the grounded black pepper.
Now add sesame seeds, cumin seeds, carom seeds and salt.
Add 2 tbsp oil to it.
Mix everything well.
Keep adding water and knead a dough of soft consistency.
Knead the dough using lukewarm water.
We have kneaded a soft dough.
We have used more than ¼ cup water to knead this much dough.
Cover the dough and keep aside for 10-15 minutes.
The dough will become fluffy and will set. Then we'll prepare the mathris.
Till the time the dough sets, put oil in a wok and let it heat.
Our dough is ready.
Put oil in a wok and let it heat. Till then knead the dough a little more.
We will make round balls with the help of dough.
We will make small round balls just like the once made for mathri.
We have made around 20 balls from this much dough.
Now check if the oil is hot.
Once the oil is hot, start making the mathri.
Use your hands, to press the ball this way and make a flat oval.
Our mathri is rolled out.
Put the mathri in hot oil.
Make all the mathris in similar way.
Put all the mathris carefully in the pan one by one.
Let the gas be on medium flame.
Change the side of the mathri, once it starts floating on oil.
Take out the mathri from the wok once it is golden brown in colour.
It will take 10-12 minutes to fry the mathri.
Make all the mathri in the same way.
The mathris are very tasty and crispy.
Store the mathri in an airtight container, once they are cool. You can store and eat them for a month.
