This video is going to address Formaspace plastic laminates.
So our plastic laminates are a few millimeters thick
and are typically uh... laid
with a rounded edge. If you have a benchmarx product from Formaspace
you'll have a rounded edge on the front typically, unless you specify otherwise.
On the basix you'll have a rounded edge on the front
and on the back of your bench.
uh...Also uh... things to know about plastic laminate:
we have three standard colors- black,
gray, and white whether you have standard plastic laminate, ESD or electrostatic
dissipative plastic laminate,
or chemically resistant laminate.
But there are also a huge array of other colors that are out there and
available uh... including wood grains and
crazy colors and all kinds of good stuff.
So again our plastic laminates are over a particle board engineered wood
core
that's 1 1/8" thick
uh... and they are adhered with an environmentally sensitive
water-based glue (you could actually eat it if you wanted to
i don't recommend it but you could do it)
and so that pretty much covers um...
the basic plastic laminate
in some detail.
Our ESD plastic laminate
meets 3M certified standards
uh... and is ESD under wide variety of circumstances.
There are some rumors out there in the industry that if you sand it or
put water on it, or uh... you know...
that sunlight hits it, or
somebody whacks it with a hammer or just sits on it or
all these crazy things
that the laminate's not going to be good for ESD anymore that's demonstrably not the case
and we'll eventually have a video that shows you
all the things you can do to ESD, our ESD laminate, and still have it
function. But we do recommend frequent testing in your environment to ensure
that your lam is still meeting it's ESD
application standards
And finally there's chemically resistant laminate.
Chemically resistant laminate
is
among what you might call
on a "good-better-best" scale
kind of at the good end of the laboratory spectrum.
It's okay for very light applications where you don't plan to drop any sort of
chemicals on the product but they might occasionally come into contact with say a
5% bleach solution or something or isopropyl alcohol or
something like that uh... chemically resistant laminate will discolor under
even fairly light solutions of say hydrochloric acid and stuff like
that
so that's just something to know about laminates.
Also if you're in a laboratory environment
you should be aware that all the laminates
if laid over particle board are not no VOC or low VOC unless you specify
otherwise and we get a low or no VOC wood.
VOC by the way means volatile organic compounds.
