IBM utilizes several different avenues to attract and recruit candidates with disabilities
uh... in addition to our extensive university contacts uh... and our relationships with
schools such as RIT and NTID
uh... we also worked through trade journals to identify candidates. We also have several programs uh...
that are partnerships as well as internal to the company
uh... and so i'll mention some of those programs
uh... briefly. There's three main programs that we focus on
at the first is Entry Point, the second is Lift
and uh... the third is Help Wanted and Help Hired
uh... now the first one, Entry Point, is a is a program that was developed strongly
between IBM and the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences
and it really seeks to connect students with disabilities with managers in IBM
who provide mentoring career guidance
Throughout the year for these students and then as part of the managers role
uh... they're really focus on getting these students internships, making sure that they're considered
competitively for positions
uh... and really um...
working to ensure that candidates are noticed by the recruiters
Lift is actually a non-profit organization that IBM works with
that seeks to identify, train,
and hire students with disabilities in uh... computer fields so software engineering
uh... computer analysis... IT
and these people are then contracted out to work for IBM for a year
and after that period of time
IBM uh... considers them competitively for open positions
uh... The third are a series of videos that are internal to IBM and really are designed to
encourage managers
to consider students and candidates with disabilities
when they're making hiring decisions
So this is really to take the fear uh... out of the process sort of speak to provide informational
or resources are available and really why there is a major benefit and its important
to IBM for managers to consider candidates with with disabilities
the last thing i would also like to mention is were increasingly networking in the social media space
to connect students and people with disabilities with recruiters. So we have an on going project
to create a linkedIn group
uh... that will be live shortly where students as well as professionals with disabilities
can interact directly with recruiters
