The library has created a number of video resources that can help your students navigate Blackboard 9.
These videos cover a range of topics like how to submit an assignment,
how to take a test, and how to post to the Discussion Board.
We’ve put all of our student videos onto our website.
You can find them by going to the Faculty tab on our main page.
Then click Supporting Teaching.
On the next page, click Blackboard Basics.
Find the Student Video promo and click Share these videos.
You can also get there by keying:
library.utm.utoronto.ca/bb/studentvideos
into your browser.
Any new videos we make will be added to this page, so go ahead and bookmark it.
On this page you can preview each video and figure out which ones you want to share with your students through Blackboard.
You have two options when it comes to sharing videos:
you can either post a link to a video or embed the video directly into your course.
We’ll show you how both options work.
Lets start with posting a link.
If you link to a video, you’re providing your students with a shortcut to the Youtube page where the video resides.
To link to a video, go to our Student Video page and copy a video link by right clicking and selecting Copy.
Then go into your course and make sure Edit Mode is ON.
Now, go to the content area that you want the link displayed.
I’m linking to a video about submitting an assignment so I’m going to put it in the Assignment content area.
In the content area click Build, then Create External Link.
Here you’re going to provide a link text.
This is what your students will click on to access the video.
Try and be descriptive and concise.
Then, paste the link you copied into the URL field.
Type a description of the video in the Text box if you like.
Make sure that Yes is checked under Options, Permit Users to View Content Item.
On this page, you can also also choose to do things like track the number of views,
have the link open in a new window, or control the dates when it is available.
To finish click Submit.
Now you`ll see a link to the video in your content area.
And clicking on it will take your students to the Youtube video.
Now your second sharing option is to embed a video.
Embedding will let your student see a video directly in a content area.
This is a good option because it keeps your students inside your Blackboard course.
To embed a video begin by copying the embed code from our Student Video page.
You can do this by highlighting the text, then right clicking, and selecting Copy.
Make sure you grab everything enclosed by the triangular brackets.
Now go into your course and again make sure Edit Mode is ON.
Now navigate to the content area where you want to display the video.
Again, I’m linking to a video about submitting an assignment so I’m going to put it in the Assignment content area.
Click the Create Item button.
Here, provide a descriptive name for your video.
Then in the Text box click the HTML Toggle button. This is the button with two triangular brackets.
Then, paste your code in the Text field.
Make sure that Yes is selected under Permit Users to View the Content Item.
Again here you can choose to do things like track the number of views,
have the link open in a new window, or control the dates when it’s available.
To finish click Submit.
And your students can now watch the video while still inside your Blackboard course.
