When I see a piece of jewelry on someone, I see a story.
I see the piece of jewelry telling me a story, like a writer, it's telling me where she
got the jewelry, when, how, why? And it just resonates with me.
And I sort of imagine she got this, you know, I don't know, some trip or having a baby
or some moment some special moment in her life.
So I see jewelry differently, it speaks to me, it sparkles, the way moves resonates with me.
So I see like little stories, little vignettes.
Thank you for coming in. It's great to being here.
It's always good to have diamonds to start your day.
So we have here a whole collection of bridal inspiration and fashion inspiration.
On Facebook, we're like "Neil Lane is coming to our office."
And one of the brides was saying she was so glad that you started a line with Kay because,
you know you work with all these celebrities, but at the same time you're designing rings
for the average girl, too, which is so nice. We'll, because, you know, I don't think
of anyone as sort of the average girl. Ya.
You know, when a girl comes into my shop, she could be the prettiest, the wealthiest,
the most famous, but they're just like you. They're just like everybody, they want a pretty ring.
Do you have a favorite out of your bridal collection?
Well I love the pear shape, I do.
The pear shape was a ring my mom had when I was growing up.
So actually that's an homage to my mom using a pear shape diamond.
No wonder I was so drawn to it, I love it. That's sweet of you. I love the cushion shape.
I love cushions.
That is something I really started in Hollywood years ago, especially from my knowledge of
old-cut diamonds and antique and vintage. This looks couture.
In many ways it is. In many ways it is because it is hand-finished, hand-polished, diamonds
are hand set. So there's a lot of wonderful energy that goes it.
It's really bringing Hollywood glamour to America.
Ya.
Well if you notice in all this, it's really about detail.
And what I found is that a lot of people were looking to wear jewelry at their weddings.
And they would borrow their grandmother's pearl earrings, their mom's necklace, and
they didn't really have anything of their own.
So we started thinking about how do we incorporate the bridal into fashion?
Floral bands, vintage bands, vintage designs... Can we look at this?
Ya, look at that. I've been eying this.
You can definitely wear this every day after your wedding.
Absolutely, ya. I love those. It usually incorporates the pear shape, which
you see a lot in my couture jewelry, but it's such a feminine shape.
And the little pearl, see that really translated really well for your wedding day.
And what I'm finding is that the mother-in-law is buying her new daughter-in-law something
white to wear on her wedding day. How nice!
And these are perfect for that. Ya!
And they become like an heirloom. I want to see that reinvention, that jewels
are important to people. That they take them seriously.
Right, and you pass it down. Ya. You know, we don't really trend in bridal.
Bridal rings are really classic and they last a long time, but what we can do is add mixed
metal, we can do a little twist to it. But they're very classic, you don't really
want to change the face of bridal, you want to make it grow.
So now we're on our way to get ready for the event tonight.
We're showing the collection to all the stylists and fashion magazines.
And we're going to have a display about jewels and the inspirations from the couture
collection from my historical vintage collection. And they're going to Tweet out their photos.
Mostly the star is the collection... the jewels! And I, uh, I'm going to meet and greet.
I didn't know all those years, going to Paris, buying a little vintage nineteenth-century
diamond ring, I mean maybe for six hundred dollars, that one day I'd be using the detail
that I saw in that ring in a collection that I'm selling to America.
Who knew? We do find that amazing and exciting that
people are saying, "Wow, I have a Neil Lane," that's... that's really exciting and I
appreciate it... um... I have a long way to go.
I have a long way to go. We have a lot of mountains to climb.
And there's a lot a lot of jewels to make. I think we're just beginning.
