Woman: about five foot within half an hour.
Andrew Mitchell: Up to this height? About five foot, within half an hour?
Andrew Mitchell, Secretary of State for International Development
I'm in this camp in Pakistan, in the heart of the awful, awesome destruction of the flooding
that has taken place here. I've come to see British aid in action helping
these children here on the ground and the thousand people who are here in this camp.
Oxfam with it's clean water, the British tax payer who's produced all of the tents that
you can see, in green, around here. This is why Britain's support in this dreadful
time for Pakistan and the support of the international community really matters.
We've got to give these resillient folk a chance to rebuild their lives after this dreadful
disaster, which has engulfed their communities.
Say to him that we are here from Britain to see what we can do to help and assist his
government and this village in these terrible times.
The Canadians and the Australians have announced in the last few hours that they will be giving
$30 million dollars of support, and I am going straight from Pakistan tonight to New York
to attend the Secretary General's emergency meeting, where he's got the richest countries,
the donor countries together to plead with them to give the support that the UN has asked
for and I will be doing everything I can from Britain's perspective to make clear the dire
situation on the ground and to urge my colleagues in the developing and developed world to
give every possible support that they can.
