Andy sees the greatness of what a project can be.
Before I started working for him I would be looking over at the crazy stuff he's been
doing and think 'I want to do that!' He's taken his punk rock aesthetics and is
using them to rethink musical instruments. Lately I've been telling people that I'm a
sculpture and I work a lot with sound. I worked at the MIT media lab and developed
instruments for and with Tod Machover and then I spent quite a while working with
Björk developing new types of instruments that harness different forces of nature to make music.
I always say yes to the projects when I can
see that they have a vision that they're excited about and I can see it too. An opportunity,
for something that can make beautiful sound, for something that can move in this beautiful way
What we're really doing is about craft. There's
this great process of just attention and shaping. Whether you're working with metal, working
with wood or software, all of these are very much crafts.
It's all about this harmony of the details.
