Erik: As a real estate development professional, what tools and resources do you use to stay
current with market conditions?
Brett: Since our last interview I started to use Twitter and I actually use it for receiving
news. In general though I get news on the real estate market from the newspaper. I read
the New York Post, I read the New York Times. I read the Real Deal. I read the Real Estate
Weekly. I read the Real Estate Forum and I get probably thirty emails a day from different
news sources including the Financial Times and Curbed and Brownstoner. Besides just reading
news sources, websites that I use to keep current on property information, rules, regulations,
zoning, the CMBS market, all different types of you know transactions and stuff like that.
Erik: Do you set aside time each day specifically to look at the news?
Brett: I try to and sometimes it is the first twenty, thirty minutes of my day. But in general
if things kind of come up sometimes some of that gets skipped. I usually catch up. I usually
have a stack of papers because I do print a lot of it out. And I have a stack of papers
that I carry around with me. In the summer I go to the beach a lot. Saturday is my news
day. Sunday is fun reading and I kind of pool all that information and gather my own opinion
from those sources.
