David: Hello I’m Dr. David Perlmutter.
Leize: And I’m Leize Perlmutter. Welcome to our home.
David: You know the question we always get asked is, how do you do this? How do you live
this grain brain lifestyle? How do you cut the carbs? How do you get rid of the gluten
containing foods? When you eat those carbs, when you give in, the blood sugar goes up
and then when it crashes that sends a signal to your brain to start foraging. And you’ll
forage for whatever you have in your house. If you keep these foods in your house that’s
not going to happen and you’re going to satisfy yourself with nutritious food. That’s
what the grain brain lifestyle is all about. And what we are showing you right now is how
you’re going to make that happen. Eat nuts and seeds. These things stay in the pantry,
they’re rich in fat which is satisfying keeping you from being hungry rich in fiber,
good for the bacteria that lives in your intestines and eggs, high in protein, high in good fat.
A glycemic index of zero, eggs are really a great food. And we love this spice, this
creole crunch that goes on top. And, you can put toasted pumpkin seeds on just about everything.
I love toasted pumpkin seeds on eggs, mixed in with vegetables; I love them on top of
green beans. One of the questions I always get is what about flour? How are we going
to bake? How are we going to make all these things and there are wonderful brain healthy,
grain brain friendly, flours out like coconut flour and almond flour. You can use these
to dust things like fish and poultry. And you’re not going to miss out on wonderful
foods.
Leize: Also for baking Coconut flour is wonderful, almond flour is wonderful.
David: This is how you can stock your pantry and have these things available to you at
all times.
