A new apology from KSDK after sparking a school lockdown, new details on the St. Louis Cardinals
Hall of Fame coming to Ballpark Village and an ice rescue at Creve Coeur Lake caught on
camera. That and more, today in The Sift.
Welcome to The Sift. I’m Gabrielle Biondo, filtering through
some of the most talked about stories in St. Louis.
After the Kirkwood school lockdown debacle, KSDK has issued another apology for sparking
the situation that set off parents and others across social media.
KSDK now says it's GM met with the Kirkwood superintendent and apologized for creating
the situation. KSDK also says it’s sorry for unnecessarily
scaring students, teachers and parents and for causing undue stress. It will also evaluate
this situation for the handling of future news pieces.
Just like the lockdown, this new apology received quite the response on social media.
Like this tweet saying it’s about time. And this one, calling the apology cheesy.
And this one from Mayor Slay’s former press secretary saying it’s time to move on from
the incident. And a dog may be apologizing to its owner
today for this scary situation. Check it out. Another ice rescue. This time
on Creve Coeur lake and it’s posted on YouTube. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports this was
the scene after a dog fell through the ice. It’s owner went after it, rescued the dog
and then got stuck in the freezing water himself. Rescue crews say the man was hypothermic when
they reached him and was treated at an area hospital.
The dog made it safely to shore. And it may be winter, but there is lots of
Cardinals baseball news today. At this weekend’s winter warm-up, a plan
was revealed for the St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame coming to Ballpark Village.
The first inductions take place August 16th. There are 22 people in that inaugural class.
You can find out more in the Post Dispatch story below.
Plus, retired Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter is moving from the field to the front office,
although his new role with the cardinals organization is not yet defined.
And the Chicago Tribune reports, the Cubs have conceded central Illinois to the cardinals.
