I think a lot of people think journalism school and they just think of interviewing, writing and reporting.
I left with a skill set that made me comfortable
going into the field of marketing, which I didn't think was going to happen before.
That came from Web Publishing courses, Visual Communication courses
Photojournalism and now
going into the field and getting a job in the news media industry
I selected University of South Florida St. Petersburg because of their Journalism department
I knew that, not only would I learn the skills that I needed but
it would also give me a lot of other cutting edge skills
You have to know where the invisible boundaries are
You have to know that, perhaps, journalists aren't considering the big picture
when they do their day to day job
I feel like the professors here have taught me how to consider that big picture
Having this graduate degree is a great advantage in the job market
whether you want to teach
and you need a master's degree
whether you want to change your career
and show that, 'Hey I'm interested in using a really
established skill set in new areas.'
This degree is what says you can do that.
