JOB INTERVIEWING. Part 1. Getting Ready for an Interview. Getting a job interview
is an important step to getting a job. Be prepared for your interview so that you stand
out and show that you’re the best person for the job. Use the interview worksheet to
help collect the information that you need. Follow these steps before an interview: Step
1. Get interview details from the employer. Use your interview worksheet: to note the
date and time of your interview, to note the name, title and phone number of the one who
will conduct the interview, to note the address & directions to the interview, to make sure
you know how to get there and how long it will take to get there, to ask about the interview
process, to find out if you should bring anything, other than additional copies of your resume. Step
2. Learn about the employer. Use the Internet to find out the size and locations of the
employer, the company history and the products or services offered. Step 3. Prepare your
materials. Write down questions to ask during the interview. Collect copies of your resume,
certificates, examples of work and references - and put them into a folder. Be ready to
arrive prepared and interested. Step 4. Look at information employers may use to research
you. Look at your personal pages on social media sites, like Facebook. Make sure your
information presents a good image of you. Be ready to talk about information an employer
may find, including: Pictures and video; Your credit rating (be sure to get a credit report
and look at a copy before the interview); and Felony convictions, if any. Step 5. Practice.
Be prepared for your interview by practicing your 30-second elevator speech, to tell the
interviewer about who you are. Practice your answers to easy and hard interview questions.

make a good first impression. On the day of the interview, remember to look your best.
Give yourself time to get ready. Have clean fingernails, brushed hair, brushed teeth,
and wear deodorant. Wear appropriate, clean clothes. Bring your notes, resume, and samples
of work, certifications, and references. And arrive at your interview ahead of time. During
the Interview, be positive, and confident. Turn off your cell phone. Do not bring in
food, drink, or chewing gum. Listen to your interviewer and make eye contact. Answer all
questions and ask questions. Use your prepared notes. Take notes so that you can follow up
after the interview, including how you can contact the interviewer. Let them know that
you are interested in the job before you leave the interview. Part 3. After the Interview.
After the interview, send an email and hand written note to show your interest in the
job and to show your ability to follow through. If you have not heard from them within the
time specified by interviewer, give them a call. Visit www.illinoisworknet.com for tools
