An attack on Syria looks to be imminent, after the U.S. confirmed that the Syrian government
used chemical weapons, killing hundreds. Kim Hyun-bin reports. The United States made
it clear on Friday that it would punish the Syrian government for using chemical weapons
against its people.
?} "We know rockets came only from regime-controlled areas and went only to opposition controlled
or contested neighborhoods."
The statement came after the White House released a report saying that over 14-hundred Syrian
civilians and over 400 children were killed in the attack in Damascus on August 21st.The
report was based on intercepted communications by a senior Syrian official as well as other
intelligence.U.S. President Barack Obama said the U.S. is still in the planning process
for a "limited, narrow" military response that will not involve boots on the ground.
?0} "We are looking at the possibility of a limited, narrow act that would help make
sure that not only Syria, but others around the world understand that the international
community cares about maintaining this chemical weapons ban and norm."
The Syrian government has repeatedly denied using chemical weapons and said the U.S. accusations
represented a desperate attempt to justify a military strike.?France on Friday affirmed
its support for a military response to punish Syria, while the British parliament voted
not to take part in the action, leaving Washington to conduct the attack without one of its closest
Me}Meanwhile, a UN inspection team left Damascus after collecting samples and evidence from
