My name is Christine Marquette and I'm a Registered Dietician with the Austin Regional Clinic
and I'm going to talk to you about the side effects of apple cider vinegar for blood pressure.
Now a lot of times people are trying to use apple cider vinegar for weight loss and they
may have a concern, "is this going to negatively impact my blood pressure". "Will it make my
blood pressure go up"? Well, there haven't been any stories that show that apple cider
vinegar will increase blood pressure. But in the same token, there haven't been any
that have shown it will decrease blood pressure. Truly, any, any stories have been done with
apple cider vinegar haven't shown any bad effect from it. It won't cause you any damage
to your heart, to your blood pressure, it's not going to increase it, it's not going to
significantly decrease it. It's somewhat of a neutral food. Some people think that it
may have an impact because it can affect potassium levels. There is a, apple cider vinegar has
a small amount of potassium in it, potassium has been associated with decreasing blood
pressure. But again, it doesn't have enough to actually decrease your blood pressure.
Other people have a concern that it may actually cause your body to leach potassium. Again,
there haven't been any studies that have shown that apple cider vinegar will actually cause
you to leach potassium unless you already have something physically wrong with you or
you're using a diarrhetic which is a type of blood pressure medication that already
can cause your body to leach potassium. So, by itself it's not going to have any negative
impact on your blood pressure. But if you're already taking medications to treat blood
pressure, you want to make sure you talk to your doctor at all if there's a possible interaction
with apple cider vinegar with the medication you may already be taking.
