>> Cathy Goldstein: I became interested in sleep medicine during my training
as a neurologist because, obviously, everybody sleeps.
So I found that everyone has a potential type of problem with their sleep,
whether it be a 20-year-old with no other medical problems otherwise, or if it's somebody
with a progressive dementia, or somebody with heart disease, sleep is an important facet
of almost everybody's health care.
What I find the most fascinating is looking at the biology and physiology of sleep medicine.
Particularly my interest, which is the circadian rhythm our internal body clock,
and how we see it so apparently on an everyday basis in our sleep and waking function.
And that's what really gets me excited about sleep, and how I can take those principals
and apply them to treating our patients and maximize the benefits to you.
