Hi! So you might have figure out by now, my family members are Australia enthusiasts.
This time round, all of us who were in need of a getaway, took day offs from our
crazy life and embarked our journey to Adelaide which lies in the south of down under.
The night aeroplane ride to Adelaide was amazing. There were sprinkles and dusts of so many
stars in the blanket of the night skies. You can't see it in the video but
believe me, it was magical. By the time we reached Adelaide, we were too pooped out
and jetlagged, so we spent a little bit of our afternoon taking more than cat naps in
the hustle bustle, noisy Adelaide central market. In the later part of our first day, we hitched on a tour
and went to catch a panoramic view of Adelaide at Mount Lofty
We then went to a German settlement town called the Hahndorf village to have
a free afternoon tea and hot chocolate and some delicious assorted cakes;
where I was reprimanded by my sister about silly table etiquette.
On the second day we had breakfast in a hotel, which also marked the first time
I have ever made eye contact with this wonderful pancake machine.
To sum my consecutive mornings up, I had pancakes every single day. It was so good.
There was also the typical coffee machine which I wish to have in the kitchen of my future home,
but after public protests from my father and intensive contemplation, I think I
would want to skip mornings of killing coffee-loving ants. Mornings in Adelaide
are always pretty, quaint and quiet, especially during wintertime. The way the
shadows fall on the roads, stencil by silhouettes of preserved vintage buildings
and naked winter trees.
The way the garden glowed with lush green.
But just as the sun started to set, we tasted our first Adelaide rain.
During this time, my father also began to resemble a cool Asian Southpark character.
The rain lasted till the next morning but fortunately for us, we managed to go for
a little bit of shopping at Rundle Mall and Target.
My bubbly eldest sister took the opportunity of the huge store to parade
around Target's shopping cart.
My elder sister, on the other hand, discussed about our body figures, not realizing
that an elder couple behind us was possibly overhearing our girly talks about our
body sizes.
The next day took us to Kangaroo Islands. We observed sea lions chilling out in the beach
and basking in the sand. It is times like this I wish I were a sea lion because they
definitely know how to have fun.
Although the day was filled with many events of sudden outpours, unexpected heavy rains
overgloomy thick skies and trusty winds,
Mother Nature sure knows how to make up for a scary weather. Her whispers almost sounded
like Grandmother Willow from Pocahontas gently telling us,
"After every rain, there's a rainbow." The day didn't quite end like a fairy tale, seeing that
the ferry ride in the ferocious waters back to Adelaide had caused my family to throw up a couple of times.
The footage you are seeing now shows the last few moments of our sanity and good health
before we spontaneously painted white paper bags with colours of food
we had earlier that day. But we got better after being back to our hotel rooms and
surprisingly after many days of placing plush Mike Wazowski upside down
against the pillows, the chambermaid finally figure out which were his legs and
which were his ears.
My hotel room is great, except that the narrow path to the toilet bowl
is a little intimidating and scary. It almost feels like something was lurking there.
After a good night rest, a day at the Murray River awaited us. We went on a riverboat cruise
where the wind was at its best, the flag soared with gusts, the deciduous willow trees
softly humming,
and birds and swallows playfully having fun with river and the skies as their
playgrounds.
To top it off, another rainbow emerged and I concluded life couldn't get any more
beautiful at that moment.
The boat ride was a sweet experience because we were served prawns which were
huge, juicy and delicious; I finally made myself a perfect milk tea
and also we were invited to the captain's deck. We then went to the little town in Walker Avenue
where I finally had an upclose and personal
contact with caravans because I've always dreamed of being a gypsy nomad.
We met with a stranger who showed us his boat house which at that time I really wish I went into it
but my sister who loves watching criminal shows
silently gave me the warning eyes that this was a potential crime scene.
although the old man was nice thou. Once we're back in the city, the moon
hang in the skies like a thinly-cut paper.
We went to our favorite restaurant for their very delicious chicken kebab. It was the
best chicken kebab we have
ever tasted in our whole entire life.
alaska's also all last september having the chicken kebab
Alas, it was our last time ever of having the chicken kebab melting in our mouths
because our stay in Adelaide had to end the next morning. Although tears were silently forming in my heart,
the sun and skies were there to give comfort to this sorrowed soul of mine.
True to Australia's national anthem, "Our land abounds nature's gifts of beauty rich and rare."
The plane ride to Melbourne was pretty interesting. Apart from the amusing
fact that our aircraft went around in circles, I had an in-flight seat-to-seat finger-unfriendly
chat with my siblings. We also get to witness how domestic flight luggages were handled by men
who have absolute strong and yummy arms. Although we have already went to Melbourne
last year and were back again this year, so many things have changed.
The population seemed a little more densed but that did not stop us from enjoying
our time there.
We visited the Melbourne Aquarium and said hello to jumping penguins,
soft jellyfishes, mister friendly shark and playful stingrays.
The aquarium was so interesing but unfortunately my sister succumbed to
slumber right in front of the dramatic and majestic tank. We took the free
city tram and my father got a little mischievous and went ahead posing like any girl would do.
Times like this I am thankful to have a father like Papajumba.
We met up with family friends who brought us to dinner and who taught us that brollies and winter
don't go very well together.
The night walk back to our hotel was serene. Streets of Melbourne are always very pretty
especially with buskers playing music
with so much heart and soul put into it.
Fresh air of Melbourne was accompanied with mysterious trees, night lights and dark alleys.
Since it was coming to the last day of our stay in Melbourne, I can't help but to spend good
old fun times with the smell of muffins from the breakfast room toaster,
my hotel room's bolster
as well as induging in the self-heating, ***-shaking mushroom soup.
But nothing could match up to the fun of a great company I had with my family - the very ones
we found joy and comfort in while embarking on this adventure
The sights of Australia were great, but it was more meaningful and special
having my family here with me. Our getaway from our busy lives were definitely one to remember.
