Boy Scout: We are near Manhattan, Kansas.
>> Boy Scout: We are here going geocaching for a microcache. We are in troop 75
>> Kent: Watch out, that's poison ivy right there.
>> Timothy: When I heard they had the merit badge going on I thought that it would be
fun to do.
>> Kent: It's very new. The requirements are all fixed and they're available on the internet.
>> Timothy: I think it's kind of like a treasure hunt.
>> Boy Scout: Ah, ha, we found it. Got a log here. We had people who came here yesterday.
>> Kent: Everybody was looking down and where was it? Up. It was up. You can learn about
poisonous plants, and you can learn about GPS receivers and you can learn about the
geology of the area and you can still have fun.
>> John: My name is John and this is Tim here. We got a Virtual Cache today.
>> Kent: You have to know the termonology and know about geocaches, the different types
of geocaches.
>> John: We've got some questions here they are, when was the cabin built? We can sign
our names here. Today is July 1st of 2010. We are Troop 75. I helped out my Scout Master
with the Geocaching Merit badge, we found two. Okay. Let's go. Let's get out of here.
>> Timothy: We done quite a few different types.
>> Kent: We were also able to find a National Geological Survey Marker, and we were able
to benchmark that.
>> Boy Scout: It was placed in 1947 at 1,111 feeet above sea level.
>> Mason: This is our third geocache we've gone to, the arrow is pointing that way.
37 feet, that way. Well, we found it. That's a tough one.
>> Timothy: Some people trade for a toy knife, pins and items like that.
>> Mason: I'm now placing a Travel Bug. Its name is Eagle Scout.
>> Kent: We're going to have to establish a geocache and then track as people find it,
and also you have to work with trackables.
>> Sobakia: I think it's fun, because you go out and look for things and find something.
Be proud of yourself.
>> Kent: Our plan anywhere we go, is leave it better than we found it.
>> Kent: A very important part of the Scouts is that the Scouts teach and we have a core
of these seven scouts that learned it. And we have 80 scouts in the troop, so now it'll
be these scouts job to teach the rest of the scouts about geocaching.
>> John: Alright, roll it up and I'll put it back up.
