The monument to the 80th anniversary of the Japanese immigration
there over the 23 de Maio avenue
is a very symbolic work
because it was created by Tomie Ohtake, that as well, is a symbol
of the Japanese immigration, who is Japanese and came to Brasil
and started her career late, let´s say, after her 40s
after having her children raised
she creates this work that basically is like
four big waves and those waves represent the groups of people migrating
On the one hand, we could look at it that way too
But the fact is that as Tomie works with abstract situations
we don´t necessarily have to look for realistic characteristics
