Hi, my name’s Charlie. I’m back at home for the summer now but I’m going to spend
a few minutes to talk with you about exam results.
How did you get your results and what was that like?
Charlie: When I got my A Level results, we get them in August so it’s quite a long
wait which is a bit nerve racking, but you tend to fill your time so try not to think
about it as much as possible. When I got my results I went into my college to receive
them and most people sort of opened them in front of each other but I kind of skulked
off to a corner so I could hide my disappointment if I had to and umm, yeah, I hadn’t quite
got the grades that I was hoping for so I was quite disappointed.
What did you do after you got your results? Charlie: After I got my results, I thought
about it for a few days, which may have been too long, but I got the information from UCAS
saying that I hadn’t been accepted into my, my first and second choice universities.
I got a message through from Kingston University offering me a different course, slightly different
course than what I applied for, which was Medicinal Chemistry and I also used the Clearing
hotlines to phone through a couple of my other sort of, top sort of ten universities to see
what else they were able to offer as well and I decided to stick with the offer from
Kingston because it was a good Foundation course that would suit my needs very well.
How did you feel after Clearing? Charlie: At first I felt a bit disappointed
that I had to sort of resort to Clearing but then, after a while it settled in the fact
that I did still have a place at university and still had somewhere to go next year and
a goal to work towards so it was very positive after the first few days of disappointment.
How’s it been at Kingston University? Charlie: Kingston University has been really
good for me. I have finished my Foundation degree now which was two years; it was Chemical
and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Actually I think it was the best thing that could have happened
really. It allowed me to try out several different specialties in science and see where my favourite
areas lie and now I’m studying the MPharm course with a good start in the degree.
