Hello. My name is Don, and I'm going to discuss a pair of classic Cheyenne leggings and moccasins
tonight. This is part of my Intro to Computers class with Miss Becky McCathy. Uh, these are
a pair of classic Cheyenne leggings and moccasins that I made, and what makes the leggings classic
is that, uh, they're done in lazy-stitch beadwork with a little bit of applique trim
around the edges. You'll notice that there's a chalk white background with a dark green,
um, stripes going through there. This is a classic military design that women wore in
honor of their husbands or a male relative. On the side, you'll also notice the alternating
bands of color that give some character to the piece. The other classic feature of these
leggings is the yellow paint on the leather. That was favored by the Cheyenne. The moccasins
are a little bit, uh, newer in style, about 1910, but they also retain the classic Cheyenne
features. Seven perimeter designs around the edge. At the top, you'll see a single lane
of beadwork running perpendicular to the pattern. It has a, uh, plain, undecorated, swallow-tail
tongue. And on the back, you'll notice a single lane of beadwork that covers the seam. The
other feature that was common with, uh, Cheyenne moccasins is that you do not, uh, they do
not join at the top. They leave a little space for a gap in the leather. I made these moccasins
for my daughter and someday she will enjoy wearing these at a powwow. Thank you.
