Understanding your Ford Explorers Dash Lights is very important to know what is going on
with your vehicle and if any major problems may need addressing.
We at Richmond Ford West want to help you understand what each of these lights mean
and what course of action you need to take if one were to illuminate.
There are two different types of dash lights, indicator lights and warning lights.
Indicator lights let you know of a normal function that your vehicle is operating.
Warning lights are the scary ones and the ones that you need to be aware of to prevent
further damage to your vehicles components.
Warning lights to look out for include:
The Battery Light.
If this light illuminates you should immediately turn off your electrical components such as
the A/C, heat, fans, and radio or sync system.
Make sure to bring your vehicle in to have the battery and electrical system checked.
The Brake light.
If this light should appear it could be one of three things.
The simplest is the parking brake still engaged in which case you just need to release it.
The other two are more serious indicating either a low fluid level or a major malfunction.
Your brakes are the biggest safety component in your Explorer so do not disregard this
light.
Contact your Ford Dealer right away.
The Engine Coolant Temperature light.
If your engine is running hot, this light will come on.
Pull over immediately, turn off the engine and let it cool down.
If after it is cool and the engine light continues to appear contact your dealer immediately.
The Engine Oil Light.
If this light comes on you should pull over and check you oil level by reading the dipstick.
If it is at an appropriate level and the light is still on contact your dealer right away
and do not continue driving.
Now that you know what to do with warning lights we want to let you know about the indicator
lights so you do not confuse them with any serious issues.
The Cruise Control Light.
This light will illuminate once you activate the cruise control system and will stay illuminated
until you turn it off again.
The direction indicator.
This one is pretty self-explanatory however if the light blinks faster than normal it
may mean that your bulb needs to be changed or there is a short in the electrical system.
The Door Ajar Light.
This light will illuminate along with a chime to let you know that one of your vehicles
doors is not properly shut.
Make sure all doors are latched before setting off.
The low washer fluid light.
This light will appear when you are low on window washer fluid.
Make sure to fill back up at your earliest convenience.
We hope you have found this dashboard lights video to be of help.
