The Faculty Resources page contains links about information literacy,
librarian liaisons, instruction, and streaming media.
A tutorial about information literacy is located on the upper left
side of the Resources page.
An information literate student can identify,
find, evaluate, apply, and acknowledge sources of information.
Information literacy is one of the five Student Learning Outcomes identified by
the College and is necessary for a student to master before graduation.
A librarian liaison is designated for each department or program at the
College.
Your librarian liaison offers many services including assistance with
locating library resources
class assignment development,
help requesting materials for the library collection, and customized
instruction for students and faculty.
Click on the Librarian Liaison link for more information about this program.
The library provides multiple ways to instruct your students on library and
research skills
including database searching,
using a library catalog,
evaluating web resources, and more.
The first instruction option is a live, face-to-face session.
Instruction is customized to meet the research needs of your students and is
available all four campus locations
including weekends at Sanford/Lake Mary.
For the most beneficial library instruction, professors should accompany
their class and the students should come prepared with a topic to research.
The library also offers live instruction through the Elluminate web conferencing
software.
This instructional method is appropriate for online or hybrid courses. Students
will receive a demonstration of library resources using Elluminate's screen
sharing option.
A recording of the library instruction will be made available to the professor
and students.
For professors utilizing Sakai for face-to-face, hybrid, or online classes,
you can also request to have a librarian embedded in your courses.
Embedded librarians will provide customized research and library tips to
students on the Sakai forums.
Students are able to directly contact their embedded librarian via Sakai
messages or forums with research-related questions.
Students are also able to obtain one-on-one consultations with the
embedded librarian over the phone, library chat, or in-person.
Visit the library instruction Web page and the embedded librarian webpage to
learn more about these services.
The library offers a variety of media resources including many options for
streaming.
There are more than 1,800 VHS tapes and 2,500 DVDs
available for checkout.
Seminole State has a licensing agreement with Swank Motion Pictures and access to
the Films on Demand (FMG) video streaming platform.
Netflix streaming is available at the Altamonte Springs, Oviedo, and Sanford/Lake
Mary campuses at designated stations.
Many databases also include access to streaming media including Nursing
Resource Center and Academic OneFile.
There are alternative sites for video resources as well.
To view a full list of streaming resources and access information, click on the Media
Resources link.
