Now I've seen some schedules for bands and performers where, man these guys have like
forty days, one after another where they're playing show after show after show after show,
and I can promise you I've heard their stories. I've talked to them. I've talked to the people
who hosted them about how brain dead they were, about how they couldn't even enjoy life.
Look, the whole point of this thing ,of being a performing artist is you had this dream
about how great things could be if you could perform and if you're not taking time to enjoy
it you're just working and working and working all the time, you're going to wear yourself
out. You're going to burn out. You have to schedule time for rest. My recommendation
is schedule at least one day a week for rest. If you can, schedule two in there. I know
in the short term it looks like maybe you're not going to make quite as much money as you
would, but I guarantee in the long run you're going to be able to keep going longer than
the people who are scheduling show after show for forty days on end. I guarantee you there
are some people out there who are going to make you feel just completely worthless because
they are just like the ultimate machines and I did 275 shows this year. Man, are you kidding?
How can you handle all that? I've got to have some rest for me personally and I keep going
longer than most people do. So make sure you plan for some rest when you're traveling because
I guarantee you that your brain just can't handle the amount of information of traveling
to the next show, setting up, breaking down, traveling to the next show, setting up, meeting
lots of people, answering all sorts of questions, breaking down, you can't fit it into all your
brain. You need to rest.
