An injured person does not always have to hire
an attorney to represent them in a case.
Many times, if the case is a small case
with limited damages or limited medical expenses,
the person is much better off trying to settle the case on their own.
Because a lot of times if it愀 a small case
with small damages, the attorney fees and costs will eat up
the whole settlement and they will get very little or nothing.
In other situations where there is significant damages
and significant injuries a person is better off hiring an attorney.
Even after paying the attorney fee
his of her fees and the costs involved with pursuing the case
the person will still recieve more money than if..
they tried to handle to case on their own.
Insurance companies understand that individuals and people
don愒 really know what the value of cases are
and a lot of times they will take advantage of people
who have been injured and who do not have an attorney.
A lot of times insurance companies take advantage of injured people
by coming to see them right away
and trying to get them to settle cases immediately
after an accident for not enough money.
And, it愀 not unheard of for an insurance adjustor
to visit someone in a hospital room with a release
and try to settle a case that may be worth
a hundred thousand dollars for five thousand dollars
before the person has had a chance to consult with
an attorney to see what the true value is of their case.
If a person signs a release for a low amount before
they ever talked to an attorney they are out of luck.
The case has been settled. Whatever the agreed upon amount was
whether its five thousand, ten thousand or whatever the number is;
they are stuck with that settlement.
And the fact they did not consult with an attorney is their problem
and it's to the benefit of the insurance companies
to do that because many times an attorney will understand
that the damages are much greater than
what is being offered by the insurance company.
An insurance company will do something like that because
basically they are a business. They are looking to make profits
and to make money and if they can resolve cases,
or settle cases for a lot less than what they are worth,
they make a lot more money
and this is what insurance companies do all the time.
An insurance company does not care if it's unfair
to a person if they settle a case for a lot less than
what the value is of the case.
An insurance company is a business and they are trying to make profits
and that is the number one goal to pay as little as possible
on claims so they can make more money.
