My name is Zach Treece. I'm studying civil engineering
with a structural engineering emphasis.

Because of the size, one of the advantages we have
are the resources. When we talk about scholarships,
the financial assistance that's available
and all the faculty, and all the different research programs inside and outside of engineering
It's those things, just the opportunities that we're provided
because we go to such a big institution
that has such a big name and reputation.
I've received a couple scholarships, um, through the College of Engineering
I received a Bright Flight scholarship out of high school with my ACT score
And then because of my grades in high school and my class ranking
I received a couple different scholarships under a variety of different names
They change year to year based on who sponsors it.
Well, it's nice because you don't have to worry about working during school
to pay for your school, and you can focus solely on your studies.
I mean, I do work some just to supplement
But other than that, it's nice to have that freedom just to focus on your studies and not have to worry
and not have to worry about going to work and then going home and studying.
It's nice to have support, um, from someone who has been through the process
of going to school as an engineering student and knows what you're going through
And they understand that students need support, not just in the classroom,
but financially, too, to make it all possible.
So it really ties it together, and allows for a stronger overall student I think.
I would have to work, and I'd have to take out more student loans
which adds stress, and it adds commitments.
And it would ultimately subtract from my studies, which is why we're here
I think it's definitely helped me make good grades
And hopefully I'll get a good job and eventually repay that scholarship to someone else in the future.
