When you're setting up your work station there's several things to consider. One of the first
important things to consider is whether or not it's safe, second thing is whether or
not it is comfortable. There are some bead makers who prefer to make their beads while
standing up, there are others who prefer to be sitting down. I usually like to be sitting
down when making beads. I find it a little more relaxing that way I can focus on what's
going on with my hands and in front of me instead of worrying about the stress on my
lower back. One of the most unique products on the market is called The Creation Station.
It has two hand rest, armrests built in and also has rests for your shoulders, so as you're
making a bead you could rest your shoulders and your wrists as you have your bead and
your mandrill in the flame. Another thing you want to think about is your work surface,
right now I have stainless steel sheet on the work surface and that'll protect the wooden
table from Pier 1 underneath from getting any kind of mars or or damage done to it.
Another thing you can use as a work surface would be a brick or any kind of stone. You
want to make sure that its non-flammable also at my studio at home, the wall right behind
where my torch is was made out of fireproof concrete and then we painted over that. So
you definitely want to make sure that, as your setting up your workstation, non-flammable
is the way to go.
