Misumi station, located at Uki City in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, is a terminal of JR Misumi line.
The station is located at the tip of the Uto Peninsula and it was opened on 25th December, 1899, to connect Kumamoto with the Amakusa Islands and the Shimabara Peninsula.
I took this movie of station and vicinity at Misumi station on the JR Misumi line.
Misumi station has a church-style wooden building constructed in 1903. This station was renovated into an ivory western-style building designed by Eiji Mitooka in 2011.
In front of the station, there are facilities of the Misumi Port, created along with open of the station.
The univalve-shell-shaped building of the Misumi Port Ferry Terminal is named "pyramid on the sea".
The ferry terminal has a little ship courses to and from the Amakusa Islands.
This port was crowded with ferries and passengers for the Amakusa Islands and the Shimabara Peninsula before the Five Bridges of Amakusa, the Kumamoto Port and the Yatsushiro Port are constructed and improved.
There is a tourist information center of the Uto Peninsula in the station.
Misumi station has some station staffs, an automatic ticket machine and a ticket booth.
There are eight benches, vending machine and baggage lockers in the waiting space
The beauty of the interior of Misumi station (such as ball-like electric lamps) enhanced when it was renovated.
There are basically hourly trains to Kumamoto between 5 and 22 o'clocks.
In October 2011, sightseeing train A-TRAIN started its operation within weekends, holidays and long vacation. This is the first limited express train on the Misumi line.
There are a main track and a side track in Misumi station.
A run-round loop track diverges shot before the station. This track is no longer used.
If two trains stop at this station, one goes to the headshunt and another stops on the main track along the platform.

According to explanations from the name sign of the station, there is a legend that Emperor Keiko (Japanese emperor is often called Mikado) visit here. Mikado terned around to be called Misumi (Mi : three, Kado/Sumi : angle).
KiHa 185 Series, which is used as limited express train A-TRAIN, is on the headshunt.
In this train passengers can enjoy drinking alcohol at bar counter.
