This 59 carat pink diamond is expected to sell for a record 60 million dollars when
it goes up for auction next week.
The ring, named the "pink star" is very rare and puts Kim Kardashian's engagement ring
to shame. Her ring is said to be 15 carats and reportedly cost 1.6 million dollars - but
the "pink star" blows that out of the water.
The stone weighs 59.6 carats. It's the largest fancy vivid pink diamond known. To give you
some idea, a 5 carat vivid pink diamond is already very, very rare. In fact, one sold
at auction three years ago for over two million dollars per carat, so more than ten million
dollars. So a 59 carat fancy vivid pink internally flawless diamond is unheard of. Simply unheard of.
The pink star was cut from a 132 carat rough diamond mined somewhere in Africa in 1999.
Although its exact origin is not known. The ring was first sold in 2007 and the current
owner remains anonymous.
