Checkmate, Crimea joins the Russia.
Crimean parliament voted today to join Russia,
and increased tension in the region.
Tensions escalated in the region this Thursday,
after the Crimean Parliament passed a motion asking permission to Russia
to join the country and announced for the 16th of March this year,
a referendum to strengthen the movement with the vote of public.
In Simferopol, the capital of Crimea,
the people gathered in front of the local parliament building
to support the movement.
The people waved flags of Russia and the Crimea,
and carried placards,
one of which read: “Russia, defend us from the genocide”.
Ukrainian authorities are outraged by the events in the Crimea,
with interim Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniuk saying on Thursday that
the Crimea was and will remain an integral part of Ukraine.
“This is an illegitimate decision and called this referendum
has no legal basis at all”.
This is why we urge the Russian government
not to support those who support separatism in Ukraine,
Yatseniuk said at a news conference in Brussels
after talks with European Union leaders.
