In John's gospel, chapter 14, Jesus tells His disciples that He's going to be leaving
them and going back to heaven. The men are heartbroken. What on earth are they going
to do with Jesus?
They've left all — for most of them it was the fishing profession in the Sea of Galilee.
They no longer had their boats, no more nets. They were sold to follow Jesus. And, as they
thought, to set up His kingdom here and now.
But no such thing. Jesus would not set up His kingdom until the Father was ready to
do so, and only the Father knew when that would be.
So the disciples are sick to their stomach. What on earth are they going to do? And worse
yet, will they ever see Jesus again?
Jesus, who knows the hearts of everyone of us, knows exactly how these men feel. So He
tells them not to worry, He says he will never forget them. As a matter of fact, He will
have them on His heart every minute of every day, every day, every hour, every year. And
besides that, He tells us that His heavenly Father has a beautiful house in heaven, and
that it has many rooms — or better than that — has many mansions. Jesus tells them
He's preparing one of those mansions for every child of His which, praise God, includes me.
He tells them a mansion is made especially for each one of us, and so it is ours and
our name will be on it. I just can't wait to see mine. Just for me...can you imagine
it? But that's what Jesus said. He said, if were it not so I would have told you. I go
to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again. I will
receive you to myself, that where I am there ye may be also. John 14:2,3
And have you ever thought of this: Jesus created the world in 6 days and is it beyond description
in beauty. Well, then if Jesus has taken 2000 years to prepare my mansion, what will that
be like?
Saint Paul had a glimpse of my mansion, and this is the way he put it: "Eye hath not seen,
nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared
for them that love him." 1 Corinthians 2:9
Doesn't sound too shabby, does it? I can hardly wait. And something else: I won't be the only
one there. Saint John said he was caught up in the spirit and he saw a multitude from
every kindred and tongue and people and nation. They're in heaven, gathered around the throne
of God. Revelation 5:9
And the best thing of all, heaven is open to all who place their faith and trust in
Jesus — who call upon His name for salvation. John 1:12
That's the good news. For God tells us, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the
Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13
Friend, if you haven't gotten your name written down in the Lamb's book of life, you better
do it right now. One thing for certain: we're going to spend eternity in the mansions above
or in torment below. And the choice is all in your hands.
