I have been at Bournemouth for over ten years now. I started as a research assistant and
I moved through to being a lecturer and I am now actually heading up an academic group.
I have had access to a lot of career development opportunities. Much of that has been through
our own staff development. I have had quite a variety of support whether that's one to
one coaching
whether that's things like peer action learning sets with other colleagues, mentorship.
I have also been fortunate enough to go on a number of external training courses
such as those run by the leadership foundation.
And they have been fundamentally important in building my growth and confidence and
helping me progress in my career.
Much of my work is really collaborative. I really enjoy working with other people and
I think there is a great deal to be got out of working with people within your own institution
and also elsewhere.
A really big example of this is the work at Stonehenge I have been involved in for the
last 5 years.
This involves Bournemouth but also UCL and Sheffield and Bristol and Manchester universities
and people from places like national trust, English heritage. But the core in all of this
is the fact that there are students and volunteers engaged in the work so it's an enormous team
and we have done some fantastic work.
Bournemouth University is a fantastic place to work - I love coming to work here the friendly
atmosphere,
there is a lot of opportunity and a lot of time an effort and also importantly investment,
putting in to help staff to achieve the best. If you want an opportunity, it's there for you.
