Hi, I'm Stephen Monet, Manager of Environmental Planning Initiatives
with the City of Greater Sudbury, and this is EarthCare Minute.
Did you know that many common household items continue to draw electricity
even when not in use. Often called phantom power, this
unnecessary drain is wasteful and expensive. It accounts for up to fifteen
percent of a household's annual
electricity bill. Appliances and electronics with features
like remote controls, clock displays and LED indicators
all continue to use electricity when they're off. A kilowatt meter can show
you how much
electricity and money these devices are wasting in your home.
You can borrow a kilowatt meter from any branch of the Greater Sudbury Public Library.
Safeguard your home from phantom power by unplugging
electronic items when they're in standby or off mode.
A power bar that turns off several items at once is an easy and effective way to
keep phantom power from
haunting your electricity bill. EarthCare Minute. One minute is all it takes.
Brought to you by the City of Greater Sudbury.
