Welcome back to Essex, where you rejoin us in time for the first on-track appearance
of 3 time World Speedway Champion Jason Crump, making his shorttrack debut here at the Pozzani
Silkolene Indoor Championship sponsored by Celtibero. Italy's Jacopo Monti picked up
the win and 15 points in heat one: can another international steal the show in heat number
two? Off the front row it’s Tim Greig, Mitch Godden and Steve Coles. We spoke to Tim Greig
in the run-up to this meeting, he’s been a full-time flattrack racer since 2005 when
he finished third in the British Championship – he heads up the lineup on the front row.
Off the middle row it’s Kevin Doolan and Wayne Drake and from the back it’s Tim Neave
and the three time World Speedway Champion Jason Crump. It is Tim Greig off the front
row who has made the best start, around the outside comes Steve Coles. Mitch Godden gets
very close to him on the exit of turn two and is now all out of shape with Wayne Drake
around the outside on that third and fourth turn, coming through but now being blocked
out by Godden who claims that position forcefully. Jason Crump, through from the back, is now
up into fourth place with a great move on Wayne Drake as Kevin Doolan dives through
up the inside in an attempt to pass him as well. Mitch Godden gets out of shape, that’s
completely blocked Jason Crump, and he’s slipped right to the very back with Tim Neave
now coming through up the inside. And Jason Crump, one of the big shots…oh! Going wide
now, Mitch Godden has collected the back of Wayne Drake and gone right to the back so
it’s all happening in this one. Kevin Doolan retiring with mechanical issues there, so
it’s not a good start to the meeting for him. Jason Crump, once again having to carve
his way through from the back, having done so once already. What a move on the inside
of Wayne Drake, just dives through into bend three, steams through into that position,
and now just two riders ahead of him. As Tim Neave runs very, very wide, he’s not going
to find a way through that way. Tim Greig it is who leads, back in second place it’s
Steve Coles – he’s had a rather anonymous race – as Crump once again scythes through
on the inside and he’s taken that second place. As Tim Neave does a repeat move on
Wayne Drake to move through as well. And now Jason Crump’s all over the back of Tim Greig
out in front, Steve Coles out of shape, Mitch Godden again riding the fence quite literally.
Crump going for a wide line with one lap to go, around the outside of Tim Greig. Can he
make it stick? Jason Crump fires through into the lead and cuts across coming into turn
three. And it’s the Australian three time World Speedway Champion Jason Crump, on his
shorttrack debut, who takes the fifteen points for victory in heat number one. He wasn’t
too confident in the run-up to this match, it’s his first time on these machines, but
he’s really impressed there. He came through from the back, he got through into the midfield,
suddenly he found himself at the back again and once again charged through to show where
he belongs – right at the very front. A brilliant ride from the World Speedway Champion
from 2009, Jason Crump the Australian. Fifteen massive points for him, very impressive indeed.
Back in second place, then, it’s twelve points for Tim Greig – he had the lead right
until the very last lap. And ten points in third for Steve Coles. Tim Greig will understandably
be disappointed after losing out in the very closing stages there, but it’s 15 well earned
points from the very back gate by Jason Crump on his shorttrack debut - an outstanding piece
of racing. Colin Martin is with the Australian heat winner.
