Eating with Buschwerker Michl - Rose hips
Oh wicked - rose hips! Lemme grab some of these!
Yummy - more rose hips.
I can't get these up there but these down here - mmmmmmmh!
So, these are the rose hips that I gathered.
It's not much but I'm happy anyway.
Rose hips can be collected from late fall until spring.
They're especially good in winter as tea.
They're rich in vitamins, very fruity, sweet and a bit sour.
Before we continue processing them we have to remove the seeds.
As children we used the seeds as itching powder and put it into other children's collars and made fun of them running around swearing.
So we remove the seeds, they have little hair on them which itch displeasingly in your throat if you eat the rose hip just like that.
What can be done with them... It is known as a healing plant.
It helps with articular gout and rheumatism, it acts as a light laxative, it acts as appetizer.
Now what can we make out of it... We can make mush out of it or jam,
Franconian 'Krapfen' are filled with that.
If you ever happen to travel franconia buy a Krapfen from a bakery.
They're finger-licking good!
We can dry them and make tea.
You can press oil out of the seeds for skin care.
Apart from that they taste delicious.
I'm going to clean these rose hips, remove the seeds, dry them and make tea out of them.
I'll be back when I finished that.
Mmmmh... Delicious!
A little bit sour,
very very fruity,
a little bit sweet,
Indescribable...
Should you find a rose bush with some rose hips,
pick one, open it up, remove the seeds and try it!
Mmmmh really good!
Just crossed my mind, i might not have emphasized it enough,
if you eat fresh rose hips do not only remove the seeds
but remove all those little hair attached to the flesh!
Maybe even wash them off.
If you don't you might develop a super nasty inflammation in your mouth.
Happened to me once and i was in pain for a whole week.
The hair inside the rose hip are very hard and thin.
They break like glass.
You might as well chew on glass wool.
So remove the hair very carefully!
So, these are the processed rose hips.
Was quite some fumbling but it was worth it.
I'll cut them up and put them on the radiator to dry.
So... These are the rose hips after one day on the radiator.
They're not completely dry yet, the thicker pieces still are a little bit moist.
I'll put them back on the heating for another day, just to be sure
and I'm looking forward to drinking the first cup of tea.
You can already hear that they're drying out,
they look very good and
MMMH - yes
they taste good and
MMMH they smell very, very fruity.
Very nice.
These are the dried rose hips.
Bottled...
My first cup of rose hip tea boiling...
I'm just tastig my finished rose hip tea.
Mmmmh nicely rosehippy, a little bit sour, full-bodied taste
although the rose hips haven't grown too well this year.
Much too little sun, much too much rain...
They don't have the usual flavor but still very good.
And if anyone wants to know:
This is my camera stand for at home
and this is my camera stand for outside.
A piece of screw thread with a piece of cordage...
A stick to tie it to can always be found.
