>>Sarah People recognize us everywhere because, we're like a little entity. We're known as
the "Temple Twins." [music]
>>Rachel This is kind of very much the typical basement that you hear stories of people starting
a business right out of their home, and kind of grew it and launched it, so this is like
that place for us. [music]
>>Rachel Our start up is called Fruitstrology. >>Sarah The moment that Fruitstrology clicked,
that we really got the idea for this business is when we were urban gardening with the local
children right off Temple's campus. >>Rachel So we go to this garden each week
and we talk to these kids about healthy food and we teach them how to grow healthy food
and it was really cool to see because at the end of it, they could take the food home with
them, and we thought that was really cool and we wanted to expand that whole idea and
get more fruit to kids in Philly who may not have lived by the garden, who didn't have
that opportunity. [music]
>>Sarah We really believe in social mission businesses and the power that a business has
to change things and to make a positive impact. >>Rachel for every shirt that is purchased,
we donate a serving of fruit to a child in Philadelphia so it's on a one-to-one basis
when you buy shirt a shirt, you also donate the serving of fruit at the same time.
[music] >>Sarah Each of our fruits represent a different
personality and the fun part about this is that you can match yourself to the fruits.
[music] >>Sara People really enjoy and they think
it's a cool thing. They've never heard of it before that fruits have personalities and
they like picking who they are. >>Rachel They're very kind of bold and black
and the outlines are very thick so it, it's really different than what you see on a normal
shirt. [music]
>>Rachel We're always down here working. It's just something that we like doing.
>>Sarah Ink on our clothes, on our pants... >>Rachel On the carpet. It's everywhere.
>>Sarah Fruitstrology lets you express yourself through your clothing and do something good
at the same time. >>Rachel Last year, we entered the Be Your
Own Boss Bowl and that is a business planning competition held through Temple's entrepreneurship
institute and we wrote a 15 people comprehensive business plan for it and we ended up becoming
finalists and we pitched our business plan in April of last year to a room of investors.
>>Sarah even though we didn't win, we decided to do the business anyway and we've been doing
pretty good ever since. [music]
>>Rachel It's been a help with all of the people that we've been introduced to through
Fox. It's just, even if it was teachers or students or even the security guards at the
desks, they've all just been so helpful and supportive and encouraging of what we're doing,
and, and that's something that really makes a difference for us and makes us want to keep
doing this. >>Sarah And even as we, even as we progress,
Philadelphia's still going to be our home base, so Temple's going to be very much a
part of Fruitstrology. [music fades up and out]
