The Dior spirit is a chic, independent woman,
happy with herself, who loves beautiful things.
And the photography captures that. It makes you dream a little.
Photography is an image around which…
…you can imagine all sorts of things in your own way.
I really like the idea of making women interesting,
spiritual and dreamy, slightly mysterious.
I really like the spontaneity, as well.
With women, there's always an interesting moment.
Generally, the photos aren't overly edited.
What's beautiful in couture,
the art of Dior, is that these girls feel extraordinarily beautiful.
They see themselves as beautiful, there's practically no retouching.
It's a post-show photo I took. I had a vision and I'm happy it worked.
It's a dream-like moment for them.
You can see it in their expression.
They're not posing but it's palpable, there's magic happening.
My work is to photograph what I see, the moment I see it.
I'm not here to analyse what they're doing,
what will be or what has been done.
The show is very interesting.
I see the entire show as a piece in the museum.
The artwork, the photos, the dresses, it all goes together.
I took these photos at night on Broadway, in New York.
It was -15°C, -20C° out. I placed the girl like a doll in a glass box.
The idea being a box you buy, a doll in a glass box.
That's in the Musée Rodin. I liked the reflections.
I put the girls in the windows where the sculptures were.
I loved the reflections with the light outside. The idea of sculpture.
I thought it was really lovely.
Mr. Dior was amazingly talented.
Not surprisingly, elements from the archives are often extraordinary.
They're so chic and so well made that they stand the test of time.
See this photo - you can wear that tomorrow, no problem. It's very modern.
The fashion changes over and over, but never goes out of style.
