Hello, I'm Shin Yeong-hui. I'm a traditional one-person opera singer or story-teller called Pansorikkun.
Korea has a wide variety of things for you to see, eat, and hear, and I'd especially like to emphasize things you can see.
Traditional Korean music is diverse, deeply exciting, intriguing, majestic, and, most of all,
rich in aural as well visual dimensions.
My chosen genre Pansori is a composite arts with dramaticand literary elements.
That has contributed a lot to its cultural heritage designation by UNESCO.
I've traveled quite a lot performing my own art.
When I'm on stage doing my thing, I see many people who,
despite the cultural and ethnic differences, seemingly understand this 'unfamiliar' Asian music,
who laugh and cry with me as I perform.
There are many places you can visit musically while in Korea.
Also, there are a great number of places to please your eyes
-Hahoetal(Hahoe mask xance),puppetry,Chang-geuk(folk music drama),
Samulnori(traditional percussion quartet),to name a few.
I hope you'll visit Korea and get to know Korean music.
Fantastic places are here to be discovered - Mt.Namsan Hanok (traditional Korean house)Village,
the Koreanhouse, the National Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts with its regular programs, etc.
Weekends are especially a great time for such discovery.
Great music, exiting things to see while listening to the music, hands-on Samulnori experience...Don't hesitate.
Korean music is a multi-modal sensory exploration you won't find anywhere else!
