Mental Health Services
We provide services for people with emotional distress, psychological distress, mental distress
or more severe forms of mental distress. In this Trust we provide care for people who
are of working age, older age, in secure and forensic services, children and their families,
people who have learning disabilities and people who are currently in prison.
Assessment Clinics
An assessment clinic is where somebody with a problem has been referred to by a GP or
themselves to have the support of a professional in exploring their problems, helping them
find a diagnosis, and supporting them in getting appropriate treatment.
Psychiatry Liaison Services
Psychiatry Liaison Services support acute physicians in large hospitals in attending
to the mental health needs of their patients and to undertake assessments and suggest treatment
where appropriate. We believe very strongly there is no health without mental health and
Psychiatry Liaison Services are the bridge between mental health and physical health.
Psychiatrists
A psychiatrist is a qualified medical doctor who has chosen to specialise in the assessment
and treatment of mental illness in all its forms. A psychiatrist would deliver care to
a given population through a team and he or she will be able to undertake diagnostic assessments,
provide diagnoses and suggest recommended treatments. It typically takes a further 6
to 8 years after medical school to qualify as a psychiatrist.
Recovery Services
Recovery is a philosophy that places the person receiving care at the centre and improves
their opportunities in the community. By not focussing just on their symptoms but on a
holistic approach, recovery helps people re-empower themselves and maximise their functioning
in the community.
