JOURNEY INTO THE PAST
I haven't dealt with Esoterics or Spirituality a lot.
Yes, I am a nature-loving person.
But I am down-to-earth and reasonable. Certainly.
Lisa Bach has a family and a job she likes.
But there is also something disturbing in her life.
I have a recurring dream for 4-5 years now.
I always see myself in a red, long and grey linen dress.
This dress does not fit any modern-day garment.
Neither does it correspond to the time of my grandmother or something.
It's got two cords here. And down there kind of two pompon balls.
And I want to know what's behind this dream.
This dream is recurring.
I think there is something strange going on in my life.
And I need to know what it is.
Lisa and our team go to Salzburg.
After waiting for 2 years, she finally has an appointment with Ursula Demarmels.
She is a regression therapist and already has led over thousand people to their past lives.
People just want to know: Was I evil? Was I a good person?
Did I have children? Did I have a wife? Did I have a husband? Was I in love? Was I lucky or not?
They want to know things about their personal lives and emotions.
They do not necessarily want to describe any bridge piers, statues or blazons.
That's not important then.
Suddenly you realise: Wow, I am in a past life. I can smell, I can see, I can feel.
Clients who come for a 3-4 hour-long session to Ms Demarmels and her husband ...
... experience their past lives as an ordinary person .
That's how it is in the majority of cases.
What will happen to Lisa today?
Will she find out about who she was as the lady in the grey dress from bygone days?
With an eye-mask and under hypnosis Lisa dives down into the experience .
An experience that many people before her called the most thrilling expedition of their life.
The same dream for 4 years now.
Lisa is ready and willing, but where will the journey lead her?
Now tell me about the scene where you are together with your mother.
Where are you? What do you do?
I am a girl at the age of six.
I always have to assert myself.
Against what and whom?
Against this mother who doesn't like me.
Is it your mother?
Not my real one.
But why doesn't she like a little girl like you?
She's hard to please.
And your parents?
They sent me here to live in this castle.
To live with these strangers.
Now you leave the castle and go downhill.
How far is it to the next settlement?
Quarter of an hour to half an hour.
And what's the name of the place?
Could be Eisenach.
Wartburg Castle over Eisenach. In the midst of the Thuringian Forest.
In her current life, Lisa has never been to the Wartburg Castle.
We only know it from the descriptions of her past life she gave in trance.
The search for traces starts now.
What exactly did Lisa see under hypnosis?
And how does this picture relate to reality?
Is it all just dreams and delusions?
Or will Lisa find evidence that she lived here in another body and a distant time?
Let's follow her and keep a level head.
The inner courtyard garden.
Now we get to the inner yard of the castle.
Exactly what I saw.
Wow!
Oh, up there - the window!
Lisa is oddly fascinated by this unspectacular window ...
... situated above the entrance gate of the Wartburg's great hall ...
... and already built in the 12. century.
I am locked up in a chamber.
And I'm looking down onto the inner court.
How old are you?
Somewhere between 12 and 14 years.
I clearly saw this window.
When I stood there, bent over like this.
When I looked out from here as a kid and an adult.
I could observe that man and had a view on the well.
And the laundress, with her white bonnet on.
I have a friend called Elsa. She's a laundress.
I can see her from my chamber.
Wartburg Castle often has been rebuilt and extended during its 900 years of existence.
But one thing always remained the same:
The small window above the entrance of the great hall.
Lisa's lookout cannot be confused with any other window of the Castle.
Across the yard there's a kind of building.
Looks like a stable or a smithy. Don't know.
There's a man. He cares for me.
He's like a father for me.
He was in that building over there.
He was good to me. An older man.
Don't know what it was over there.
I associate it with a blacksmiths or with animals.
In any case domestic staff.
And they often helped me.
Overwhelmed by emotions, Lisa stares at this building.
A few hundred years ago it was a plain half-timber house.
Lisa has no doubt about it anymore:
She lived here in another body a long time ago.
Still she does not know when.
And she's eager to know who she was in that past life.
A maidservant? A laundress?
Lisa tries to find an answer together with Ms Demarmels.
Imagine the man calls you by name. What does he say then?
- Elisabeth. - Elisabeth. Anything else?
Yes. Thuringia.
What's important in your life as Elisabeth? Do you have a husband, a son?
Ludwig.
A husband.
Lisa's soul journey seems to lead her to a time 800 years ago.
To Ludwig IV, Landgrave of Thuringia.
And his wife Elisabeth. Princess of Hungary.
History books tell us that they were happily married for only 6 years.
Then Death intervened.
Lisa is scared. She of all people was Elisabeth?
One of the most prominent personages of the Middle Ages.
Saint of the Catholic Church.
Lisa wants to find more evidence. For herself, not for other people.
We follow her and observe closely.
The Holy Hall. Important decisions were made here.
My husband, but also my stepmother, they were here very often.
That's a scary feeling here.
The presence of this stepmother.
I didn't get along well with that woman.
It's like these lions that bite on to their prey.
They were nagging at me all the time. Never satisfied.
Not only her stepmother, but also other members of the Thuringian aristocracy treated Elisabeth with contempt.
That is founded on documents.
Suddenly time stands still.
That's my picture as a 4-year-old.
When I arrived here.
The year 1211.
Arrival of the 4-year-old Elisabeth at the Wartburg Castle and her betrothed Ludwig.
Lisa thinks: "The little girl on the horse - that was me."
Let's go to another important scene of the life of Elisabeth.
It's late afternoon.
And I am walking. I have an apron, lifted.
I carry loaves of bread inside.
- Where do you come from? - Down from the castle.
On this small path.
Lisa on the small path leading down to Eisenach.
The same way was taken by Landgravine Elisabeth.
In order to care for the sick and the hungry in the village.
Lisa delves deeper and deeper into her life as Elisabeth.
Halfway there's a small lay-by.
That's where they lie in ambush.
My husband is waiting there with two men.
At that lay-by down there, that's were I was halted.
Another stunning small detail that baffles us.
He blocks my way and asks: "Where do you go?"
And his voice is quite rude.
And one of them grabs my left arm.
My husband says: "What's in your apron?"
I turn away, like this, saying: "What do you want?"
"Show us what you've got in your apron."
I face him and tell him that it's bread for the poor.
They need it.
The other one grabs and holds me.
But I break free again.
And Ludwig says: "Let her go."
Then I turned around and moved on downhill.
Then I spread the bread in the village. They were so happy.
When I came back, Ludwig already was waiting in my chamber to confront me.
There was a heated quarrel. A battle of words between us.
But Ludwig also has a good heart.
Landgrave Ludwig is a strong and widely respected man.
Only behind his back, they dare complain about Elisabeth's charity efforts.
These are again witness accounts from those days.
For Elisabeth her life at Wartburg Castle gets more and more unbearable.
We sometimes moved to another castle.
Certainly it was a huge castle.
Neuenburg Castle in Saxony-Anhalt.
The Thuringian Landgrave family never moved entirely to this location.
But the historical Elisabeth indeed resided here a few times.
180 kilometres from Wartburg Castle.
At the foot of the hill, there is a river.
In trance, Lisa saw a huge fortification on top of a hill with a river below.
However, she neither knows the name nor the location of the castle.
We call in a historian and ask Lisa to do another experiment.
Will she be able to dig up images or scenes which she did not see in trance?
