Hello guys and welcome to a new review!
Today I'm reviewing for you an infamous combiner from the 80s,
one of the very first,
the evil decepticon "Devastator".
Devastator, like the other combiners that were issued
is the fusion of different decepticons
to form a bigger, stronger... and stupid giant robot,
The constructicons team includes:
Mixmaster, the cement mixer
Scavenger, the excavator
Bonecrusher, the bulldozer
Hook, a crane
Longhaul, a dump truck
and Scrapper, a front-load loader
As you can see the set includes a lot of accessories,
I'll quickly show you.
The head, the arms with these spring loaded drills
The chest plate
This piece that connects the legs to the torso
A big rifle
Another shooting part
Some small rifles for the members
a cannon to be connected to the side of the head
a belt plate
and two closed fists.
The accessories can be used in the alt mode too
starting from Scrapper
let's remove the roof
we can connect the chest plate
to these two pegs.
Let's put the roof back
and here it is
On Mixmaster, we're just going to plug the rifle in the roof.
This junction on Long Haul
on these little posts on the edges of the dumping bed
This part with this drill on Scavenger
it barely stays in place.
This second arm is to be plugged in bonecrusher
again, these drills are spring loaded and working
despite the age of the toy.
Let's take the roof out of the way
and plug here
the neck/head piece can be
plugged in Hook's mid section
It looks quite goofy though.
Let's transform the single vehicles
let's move these aside
roof and chest plate off
Let's pull back the rear part to form the legs
move the blade back
and pull out the head
very blocky, like the ones of the other constructicons.
the arms are already there, just lift them.
Let's see Mixmaster, remove the gun
Here too, we're rotating the cabin to form the legs
let's pull out the arms
and you can push them back just a little to make them more stiff
and then push it back
the head is already there
Long haul,
same drill, move back the dumping bed
to form the legs
they are a bit disaglined
so move them slightly aside and then you can rotate
Now bend the mid section
pull out the arms
the fists are folded in,
pull them out
and lift the head
Rotate Scavenger's trails to form the legs
And turn to form the feet..
Lift the head
and then pull out the arms
The legs are loose
but you can use this arm to stabilize it.
Bonecrusher, pull back the roof
pull out the arms
turn them around
and bend as if he's flexing :)
It looks quite goofy
Lift the head
Move the shovel up to the stomach.
unfold the trails
the screws are a bit rusty and tight
and it's hard to slide
you just stretch out l the tips and bend to form the feet
Finally Hook,
stretch it
rotate the cabin to form the legs
pull out the arms
and here is the head
now squeeze it
in this case too we can use this crane to stabilize the weight
Now the fun part,
let's form Devastator!!!!
Scrapper and Mixmaster are going to be the legs
just transform Mixmaster back to its alt-mode
Scrapper, same story, transform it back to its alt mode
pushing the head a bit, the blade can support the weight
thanks to these small posts that block it.
Rotate the arms to form the heel
rotate the legs.
This time we transform it back
but we're going to leave it folded.
and plug in this post
The waist plate goes under Long Haul
We need to attach the top part (head and shoulders)
to plug the arms
transform back Hook
and fold it
we're now going to connect this head piece
in the middle
and hook it it on Long Haul.
Squeeze well.
Now Bonecrusher
back to alt-mode
anh just plug the forearm like we did before
rotate out this post and plug it in the black hole under Bonecrusher
insert the fist here
Last one,
back to alt-mode
pull out this metal post
plug the forearm here on the peg too
it hardly fits
This green cannon goes on the side of the head
These wings plug in the chest.
lastly, the rifle
As we could see
poseability is very limited
we can just lift the arms
and the head tilts up and down
the elbows bend too
the stickers were already applied when I bought it
were a bit worn out and misplaced
Luckily there's reprolabels.com
that reproduces Transformers' stickers
Considering that this toy dates back to 1984
it is well preserved
and there's almost every accessory
The proportions issue
and poseability
is due to the level of the engeneering of those years
but I think that we couldn't expect more.
If you want a cooler Devastator
you can buy 3rd party Devastators
that unfortunately are quite expensive
ranging from 300 to 600 dolalars
the classic G1 is sold at about 120 dollars
with the original box, even more.
Consider that sometimes just the box is sold
at $50 bucks or so.
Or you can get the encore versions
that are decently priced reissues.
This gestalt is a must buy for nostalgics
I just couldn't help getting it
for my collection
I consider it a tribute to 80's gestalts
buy it if you can afford it.
