Welcome to Librivox. Keep in mind, Librivox offers free audiobooks that are all in the
public domain, so you will only find older books that are no longer under copyright.
From the LibriVox homepage, click the catalog button on the right side of the screen located
under Listen. This will bring you to the LibriVox collection of audiobooks. If you know the
title or author of the book you want, use the search box in the upper right hand corner.
You can also use Advanced Search to narrow down your results by using options such as
status or language. If you just want to browse, you have the option of browsing by author,
title, genre, and language. Authors are listed alphabetically. Titles can be listed either
alphabetically or by the date in which they were released. Genre is also listed alphabetically,
with non-fiction books starting after the fiction, about midway down the page. Under
languages, the more widely used languages are listed first, followed then by alphabetical
order. Let's click on "A Day with John Milton." Each book will have a summary and a link to
the author's page. You have the option to start listening to the book you've selected
right away by simply clicking on any of these play buttons located here. These are broken
up into segments and can have multiple readers. If you want to download the entire work, click
on this link on the left side of the screen. The file you download will be in zip format
and you will need a program to unzip it. The files will then be in MP3 format once they
are unzipped. You can also choose to subscribe by iTunes, RSS feed, or download via a torrent.
Underneath, you can also see how big the zip file size will be as well as how long the
running time is. If you have a mobile device, there's an app available for iOS and Android
devices that allows you to download straight to that device. Librivox offers many free
audiobooks in a wide variety of genres and is a great ever growing resource.
