One of the opportunities I have had at BYU is working with undergraduates on projects.
One of the benefits for me is that it helps me to get a lot more projects done in the
time I’ve been given. The students, I am able to give them certain
tasks and leave them so I can go do other things.
Also I get to work side by side with them and teach them the concepts that we are studying
and train them on different aspects of the research projects that we do.
It’s been really beneficial for me because I hope to one day teach at a university to
be a professor and working with undergraduates is a great part of that so
It has given me some-on-the-ground training for what I’m going to be doing for the next
thirty to forty years of my life. And Peter here has been brainwashed as he
would like to go on and do the same kind of research at a university and teach.
Obviously I have my mentor but at the same time I am mentoring Peter and working side
by side with him and help him set up the projects and collect the data.
And eventually we’ll be writing those and submitting them to publication.
